Robert Kirkman to present keynote speech at ComicsPRO Annual Membership Meeting
Comic book retailers will gather to discuss the future of the direct market at the 2010 ComicsPRO Annual Membership Meeting in Memphis, Tenn. from March 25-27.
Headlining this year’s meeting is best-selling “Walking Dead” author and Image Comics partner Robert Kirkman, who will deliver the keynote address.
“I love getting a chance to sit down and talk shop with retailers, so being invited to the ComicsPRO conference is a real treat for me,” Kirkman said. “Getting to deliver the keynote address is just a bonus. I'm honored to be asked and plan to keep everyone awake for the duration, if not at the edge of their seats. Fingers crossed!”
This is the fourth year for the annual event, which draws many of the nation’s top retailers.
This year’s event will focus on upcoming changes in the comic-book market and the future of comic-book retailing. It will be held at the Hilton Memphis.
“There are many ways that comic book retailing is changing: online comics, changes in distribution, better store automation and new ways of marketing,” said Amanda Emmert, Communications Coordinator for ComicsPRO. “At the ComicsPRO Annual Membership Meeting we look forward to working with many of our industry partners to create ways for retailers to stay on top of those changes and improve sales in the direct market. It will be a valuable discussion for retailers, publishers and distributors of all sizes.”
Many companies who do business with the direct market sponsor the meeting, as it’s a great opportunity to get face time with dedicated retailers.
"The annual ComicsPRO meeting offers publishers like myself a rare opportunity to interact with some of the best and brightest retailers in the direct market," says Filip Sablik, Publisher of Top Cow Productions. "The meeting's structure allows me to spend considerable amounts of one-on-one time with retailers both to promote Top Cow's latest initiatives and properties as well as to listen to and address retailer concerns. Top Cow has been a big supporter of ComicsPRO for years and we look forward to doing so for years to come."
This year’s sponsors include DC Comics, Diamond Comic Distributors, Top Cow Productions, BCW Supplies, Image Comics, BOOM Studios, Dark Horse Comics, Top Shelf Comix, MOBY, ComicSuite, comiXology.com and more.
ComicsPRO is a 501(c)6 non-profit trade organization uniting independent comic book storefront retailers to share resources and to promote comics as an important part of popular culture and literature. Further information may be found about ComicsPRO at http://www.ComicsPRO.org.
Blazing his own trail, writer Robert Kirkman came up through the ranks of self-publishing. His recent hits include the superhero-with-a-twist series "Invincible" and the groundbreaking zombie epic "Walking Dead," both for Image. After a stint with Marvel Comics that included the hit parody "Marvel Zombies," Kirkman was named partner at Image Comics in 2008. In 2009 he co-created the sold out "Haunt #1" with Image co-founder Todd McFarlane. For information about Kirkman's work visit http://www.kirkmania.com.
