24-Hour Comics Day is Saturday!

The 8th annual 24-Hour Comics Day event is this Saturday, October 1st. The annual event encourages amateur and professional creators to take the 24-Hour Comic challenge created by Scott McCloud: to complete a 24-page comic book within 24 consecutive hours.

ComicsPRO administers the event by creating and maintaining event registrations, working with sponsors, and providing support materials to comic book stores, libraries, galleries and schools who host 24HCD events. (The first 24-Hour Comics Day event was created and organized by Nat Gertler of About Comics, who ran the event for several years!)

We've been busy preparing this month and now it's the fun part: watching the event unfold around the world!

Interested in checking out what's happening? You can follow the event via the 24-Hour Comics Day blog as host venues post their flyers, pictures, and videos of their events. Event hosts and participants are also tweeting about their comics with the #24HCD hashtag.

Thousands of people take the 24-Hour Comics Day challenge around the world each year at official 24HCD venues. Hundreds more try the event on their own! Creators can pledge to take the challenge individually and post their work online as they go.

Visit the main 24HCD website and click "Event Locator" to see the places which are hosting official 24HCD events. Below that on each locator page are lists of individuals in that area who are going to take the challenge and plan to post their work online.

Creators who complete their 24 page comics in 24 hours are invited to send in copies of their comics to the national 24-Hour Comics Day archive, which is hosted by The Ohio State University Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum.

Good luck to everyone taking the challenge, and thank you to every 24HCD event host around the world!
